Post 10: Nature & Lighting (research/development)

I have based these trials on this model I have created using curves with an architectural material to show off it's curvature as it gives dynamic deflections.

The following trials are for the purpose to extend the quality and realism of the leafs. If this is not corrected the scene, no matter how fanatical it is, will look really bad.

There are subtle differences between each one. The first lot had refraction enabled that makes the leafs seem to be transparent while fully reflecting the environment. This gives the foliage that grey look. Disabling reflection and plating with other settings with the reflection you can get a good bit of realism. Of course the settings are dependent on what plant species you want to recreate but I am not specific in my choice.

For further testing I created some lamps to give multiple points of light. The leafs are looking good enough but not perfect.

Here is some fun with some light-emitting leafs (like the ones you would see in Avatar)

Bioluminescence is fun :)
