Synopsis of study

The last project of university is a professional wrap up of academic practice. Before leaving university and entering the 'big real world', it is best to spend that valuable time developing your skills, abilities and knowledge.

This project is aimed to dramatically develop and extend my 3D art skills. In this project I will be:
creating a blogged journey of the project exploring the essentials and creative parts of 3D art.
exploring different 3D packages. Trialing each 3d package so I can gain universal familiarity of all software in the industry.
Understanding and utilizing different methods and techniques from the different 3d packages.
Peruse the widest range of different types of work in 3d. For example, organic and non-organic modelling, texturing and shading, lighting and rendering and post-production
After an efficient amount of research and practice on a variety of packages and workflows utilize and embrace what I have learned to create final images or video (sequential images)

The purpose of such a journey is to completely prepare myself as much as I can for the skills and knowledge needed for the industry. When working in the 3d/CG industry it is crucial to learn as much about all the tools available for your or the agency's pipeline or workflow. Ignorance could cost you job opportunities and technical constraints. Imagination and creativity and the speed of manifestation is the edge to any artist working in the industry. Learning what tools and workflow works best for you as an individual artist will provide you with that edge. Because production is always competitive and fast paced creativity needs to be manifested right away with as much lack of technical limitation as possible.

The past couple of projects that included 3d was at a beginner level. The aim of this project is to raise the standard from beginner to amateur or if possible professional. Based on the amount of time this project provides it will allow me enough time to develop.

The final product of this project will be of evidence that through research and practice I can manifest my imaginings fast and efficiently. It will show evidence of quality and development. Prior to the final product there will be a series of things that I will need to learn, all new but inevitable things that have to be learned if I desire to be a professional 3d/CG artist.

Aims

A1
To provide me with opportunities to exercise and enhance my knowledge and abilities in the development of a body of creative and technically competent work appropriate to your course aims and criteria at level 6.

A2
To provide me to learn from the increased complexity and rigour of creative production required for this unit.

A3
To encourage me to apply the advanced level of discipline and time management which are required during the unit.

A4
To encourage me to work independently, albeit with supervision, in the development of my work, in a way that reflects contemporary professional practice. I am also encouraged to work effectively as a team member where this is demanded by your project or subject specialism.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit I will be able to:

LO1 Demonstrate the ability to rigorously apply specialist knowledge, understanding and creativity in the production of my extended major project.

LO2 Demonstrate the ability to manage the complexity of practice demanded by the extended major project by managing my time and work efficently.

LO3 Demonstrate ability in the coherent use of various representation techniques, documentation and presentations to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

LO4 Demonstrate my awareness of the ethical, social and cultural issues appropriate to the concept of a responsible professional practitioner, whether working independently or as part of a team.
